The AK44 Alkalinity Tester indicates the amount of alkaline substances (calcium and magnesium carbonates, bicarbonates chlorides and sulphates) contained in water and it refers to the capacity of water to neutralize acids. An adequate degree of alkalinity ensures that the pH can be maintained practically constant if small amounts of acid or base are added. Alkalinity is important in drinking water applications, where alkalinity values determine which chemicals are used and in what quantities.
